Twilio Toolkit

The Twilio toolkit lets agents send and read SMS messages through the Twilio API using credentials tied to a Twilio account. It enables programmatic access to SMS conversations, inbound messages, account phone numbers, and outbound sending.

Capabilities

• Messaging: Send SMS from any SMS-capable Twilio number on the account; handles trial-account restrictions (only verified destination numbers) and returns the new message SID and delivery status.
• Conversation history: Retrieve the full two-way SMS thread with a specific contact (messages sent to and received from that number), paginated newest-first with cursor support.
• Inbound message listing: List all SMS messages received on a given Twilio number, paginated newest-first with cursor-based pagination.
• Phone number discovery: Enumerate SMS-capable phone numbers on the account in ascending order; pages may be shorter than the requested limit when some numbers lack SMS capability.

Secrets

This toolkit requires three secrets. All are obtained from the Twilio Console.

• TWILIO_ACCOUNT_SID — The unique identifier for your Twilio account. Found on the Twilio Console dashboard as Account SID under your account info. This is not a secret in the traditional sense but is required for authentication.

• TWILIO_API_KEY_SID — The SID of a Twilio API Key. Create one in the Twilio Console under Account → API Keys & Tokens → Create API Key. Choose Standard type unless your use case requires Main. The SID is shown immediately after creation and also listed in the API Keys table afterward.

• TWILIO_API_KEY_SECRET — The secret paired with the API Key above. It is displayed only once at creation time in the Twilio Console; copy and store it immediately. If lost, the key must be revoked and a new one created. See Twilio's API Keys documentation for full details.
